Primary school to get ‘much-needed’ classrooms

By Sarah Schwager
PEARCEDALE Primary School will get much-needed new classrooms, toilets and a physical education facility after funding was announced in the State Budget last week.
The $3.04 million funding boost will go towards the school’s second and final stage of a capital works project.
Pearcedale Primary School principal Don Mackenzie said the school had applied for the funding about five years ago after its long-term enrolments were earmarked at reaching more than 450 students per year.
Mr Mackenzie said in stage one of the project, eight classrooms were built, the office administration office refurbished, and the library and computer room rebuilt.
With the announced funding, a physical education facility, which will double as a performing arts centre, and an art room will be built, existing classrooms will be refurbished, new classrooms completed, and the canteen and toilets rebuilt.
“We are very, very happy with the new funding,” Mr Mackenzie said.
“Now we will have facilities that are state of the art and match our programs and the quality of teaching here.”
Mr Mackenzie said the works were expected to be completed by 2007.
In Hampton Park, River Gum Primary School will receive $1.72 million for stage two of its capital works project, which will go towards classrooms, student toilets and the development of grounds.
