Playtime program

THIRTEEN local playgrounds are to be refurbished under Casey Council’s capital works program.
The council is now consulting residents on what features they want to see at their neighbourhood playgrounds.
The playgrounds scheduled for a makeover include Kingfisher Reserve in Doveton, Kilberry Reserve in Hallam, Margaret Owens Reserve, Maitland Street Reserve and Moran Reserve in Narre Warren, Jack Kirkham Reserve and Hazeldene Reserve in Berwick, Courtenay Reserve in Cranbourne North, Clyde Recreation Reserve in Clyde, Waratah Soccer Recreation Reserve in Eumemmerring, Liquidamber Reserve in Doveton, KM Reedy Recreation Reserve in Hampton Park and Hallam Recreation Reserve in Hallam.
Casey’s parks and reserves manager Trevor Griffin said local playgrounds were important focal points in neighbourhoods.
“Not only do they offer places for social interaction such as family picnics but they also support healthy lifestyles by encouraging children to climb, swing, slide, balance, rock and spin,” he said.
The refurbishment works are expected to cost $340,000 and must comply with the Australian Playground Standards.
