Funds pour in for sport

THE Clyde Recreation Reserve is among Casey sports facilities to share in drought support funding.
As part of the State Government’s Drought Relief for Community Sport and Recreation program, the City of Casey will receive $40,000 to go towards sporting areas affected by drought conditions.
Cranbourne MP Jude Perera said the grant would help reduce the impact of water restrictions on local sport.
Part of the funding will help install an irrigation system at Clyde Recreation Reserve to allow connection to Class A recycled water.
“This initiative will be a huge boost to the Clyde Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, Clyde Cricket Club, Casey Chiefs and Casey Sharks Rugby Clubs,” he said.
Minister for Sport, Recreation and Youth Affairs, James Merlino, said the government’s program was also possible thanks to funding from the AFL, Tennis Victoria, Cricket Victoria and the Football Federation Victoria.
“Councils, sporting associations and local clubs, as well as the State Government, have all been working hard to keep local sport strong and healthy in this drought,” he said.
