Clean-up is close to home

CASEY residents can clear their homes of unwanted chemicals at a free upcoming household chemical disposal service.
Sustainability Victoria’s Detox Your Home event will allow locals to clean out the laundry, shed, garage and cleaning cupboards.
City of Casey engineering and environmental services manager David Richardson urged people to bring their old paint, oil, pesticides, herbicides, batteries, cleaning products, gas cylinders and other items not accepted by regular rubbish or recycling services.
“Sustainability Victoria will ensure the products are treated, then either recycled or disposed of safely, which is better for our environment and our health than if these products remained at home or were poured down the drain and into our waterways,” Mr Richardson said.
The service accepts car and household batteries, gas bottles, barbecue cylinders and fire extinguishers, paint, including spray cans, motor oil and fluorescent lighting tubes.
The event runs from 8am to 4pm on Saturday 13 October at the City of Casey Works Depot on Vesper Drive, Narre Warren.
