THIEVES ransacked a sports centre in Cranbourne last week and stole several valuable items.
Police said the burglary occurred at the Cranbourne Sports and Fitness Centre some time between 9pm on Thursday, 28 September and 5.50am on Friday.
The burglars forced open several internal doors and searched the complex office, before making off with a computer screen, fax machine and cash.
Centre manager John Eden said he had operated the complex for the last two and a half years without any incident before last week’s break-in.
“It’s just gut wrenching to know that people have been through your stuff,” Mr Eden said.
He said he thought professional thieves who knew what they were after had committed the crime at his centre.
“The lollies and drinks weren’t touched so I don’t think it was kids,” he said.
Mr Eden said staff had cleaned up as quickly as possible to make sure their members were not inconvenienced at all.
“Because it’s a public place we wanted to clear it up quickly.”
Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact Cranbourne Police on 5941 0600.
