Singalong provokes attack

A 19-YEAR-OLD boy was hit over the head with a beer bottle and threatened with a knife during a violent assault outside a Cranbourne pizza shop.
Detective Sergeant Larry Grimshaw of Cranbourne CIU said the teenager was standing outside Dominoes Pizza on the South Gippsland Highway on Friday 7 April when he was targeted by another young man.
Det Sgt Grimshaw said the Cranbourne man had been standing outside the shop with a group of friends when a passing car stopped at a set of traffic lights on Camms Road.
“The car was playing loud music and the group of boys outside the shop started singing to the music.
“The man then turned the car around and parked it outside the shop.
“He then approached the group and singled out the boy and struck him with a VB bottle,” he said.
Det Sgt Grimshaw said the man then went back to his car and returned with a knife but by this stage the boys had gone inside the pizza store.
“He has come back with a large knife and tapped on the glass door waving the knife before leaving the scene,” he said.
Det Sgt Grimshaw said the teenager received a slight laceration to the head and sought treatment from a local doctor.
He said the man was described as 20 years old, Caucasian and of medium build.
Police have urged any witnesses to contact Detective Senior Constable Ben Boulton of Cranbourne CIU on 5995 4577 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
