MP declares college court officially open

CRANBOURNE Secondary College bounced off to a great finish to the year with the official opening of its new basketball court.
The asphalt hard court area is complete with a brand new shade sail covering, basketball hoop and rebound wall.
Senator Mitch Fifield officially opened the court on Tuesday after it was built earlier this year and has been in operation since July.
Assistant principal John Jovic said the area had been mainly wasteland before the court was built which was why the school decided to apply for the $37,171 Federal Government grant.
At the moment the school sports one basketball court in the gymnasium.
“The school is growing at such a rapid rate,” Mr Jovic said.
“Next year’s enrolment is already at 1435 students.
“One basketball court for that number of students just does not support that demand.”
He said the court also promoted meaningful and healthy activities for students at lunchtime.
It could also be used during class time by the physical education department.
Senator Fifield said he was delighted to open a new facility for which the need was recognised by the school community.
He was met by Cranbourne Secondary College’s school captains and unveiled a plaque on the rebound wall.
