A LEWD loo in Cranbourne should be demolished.
That is the view of Casey mayor Kevin Bradford who this week called for the South Gippsland Highway toilet block to be torn down.
The toilet, located next to the Cranbourne Senior Citizens Hall, has long been labelled a men’s meeting spot and Cr Bradford said the building needed to be demolished to stop any undesirable activity.
At Tuesday’s council meeting he moved that council officers, as a matter of urgency, prepare a report considering the demolition of the facility due to its limited hours of public use and community safety concerns.
Cr Bradford also moved that the report consider the restoration of the site with appropriate public seating and landscaping.
He said it was with a degree of regret that he had to resort to this notice of motion but the issue had been affecting Cranbourne residents for far too long.
“Unfortunately, a small section of the community are using the toilets for purposes that are undesirable and not what toilets are meant for,” he said.
Cr Bradford said the issue was putting ‘legitimate’ toilet users in harm’s way and he believed that Cranbourne police would also be happy to see the facility removed.
He said some local toilets were being demolished and replaced with electronic toilets and suggested that this might be an option council could look into.
