Kids caught over fire

POLICE have cautioned two children following a fire at Hampton Park Primary School.
Detective Senior Constable Mark Weiderhold of Cranbourne CIU said the fire began outside a portable classroom at the Somerville Road school on Monday, 6 March.
Det Sen Const Weiderhold said police had officially cautioned two primary school-aged boys over the blaze, which caused about $200 damage.
Police are investigating another fire at the school in the early hours of Thursday, 9 March.
Det Sen Const Weiderhold said the same portable classroom was targeted during the second attack, which occurred about 1.40am.
He said the repair bill was expected to reach $1000 and police believed leaves and matches had been used to start the fires.
“They are lucky that the classroom did not go up,” he said.
Det Sen Const Weiderhold said the fires were a timely reminder for parents to be mindful of where their children were going. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Cranbourne CIU on 5995 4577 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
