Driver charged after police chase

By Marc McGowan
A 35-YEAR-OLD Cranbourne man has been charged with numerous driving offences after a police chase last Thursday afternoon, which began on Mornington Peninsula Freeway before ending in Dromana.
The unlicensed driver was towing a loaded horse float and after initially being clocked at 119km/h by police radar and failing to stop, he increased his speed to 137km/h before police finally managed to stop the vehicle.
The man was allegedly attempting to reach the Sorrento-to-Queenscliff ferry on time.
On being breath-tested, the driver, who also had two passengers, registered an illegal blood alcohol reading of .090.
Sgt Nigel Atkins, of the Hastings traffic management unit, said that the man has been charged with drink driving, speeding, driving unlicensed and animal cruelty, after the horse became extremely distressed in the pursuit.
It is believed that the horse raced at the Cranbourne meeting earlier that day.
