THIEVES who tried to fly the coop after stealing a car were quickly plucked by police after they crashed at Red Rooster in Cranbourne last week.
It is believed the pursuit began when a stolen car sped past a police car on the South Gippsland Highway about 9.25am on Friday, 3 March.
Police followed but were forced to terminate the chase just before entering the Cranbourne CBD due to safety concerns.
However, feathers flew after the Holden Commodore station wagon lost control at the corner of Clarendon Street and careered into the Red Rooster drive-thru.
The driver, a 28-year-old Dandenong man, attempted to flee on foot but was caught by police minutes later.
His passenger, a 27-year-old Ferntree Gully woman, was also apprehended nearby.
The pair was charged with theft of car, burglary and drug offences.
The man appeared at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court and was remanded to appear at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on 15 March.
The woman was bailed to appear at the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
