A CRANBOURNE teenager received the surprise of his life last Thursday when he discovered a thief inside his Camms Road home.
The 19-year-old sprang the man at about 5.30pm. He asked the intruder what he was doing inside his house, and the man responded that he was waiting for a friend.
Detective Sergeant Larry Grimshaw of Cranbourne CIU said the boy then quickly went into another room and telephoned police but the man fled the scene.
Det Sgt Grimshaw said the man had been wearing a backpack at the time and had been through every drawer, cupboard and cabinet in the house before being interrupted.
He said a doona was taken along with CDs and computer games.
Det Sgt Grimshaw said the thief had sorted through several boxes of toys but the boy had returned home before he had the opportunity to take any.
A small safe was also stolen but was found on a nearby nature strip with its contents still inside.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact Detective Senior Constable Ollie Gaspari of Cranbourne CIU on 5994 4577 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Meanwhile, thieves walked away with a brand new stereo system last week following a brazen daylight robbery in Narre Warren.
Three men and three children were seen driving away from the Casey Lifestyle Centre about noon with $800 worth of stereo equipment.
Senior Constable Kylie Holloway of Narre Warren police said the thieves had simply walked into JB Hi-Fi and taken the items.
