Police probe footy blow

AN ASSAULT during a local football match has been taken off the field and made into a criminal matter.
In a game between Devon Meadows and Berwick in the MPNFL on Saturday, 4 August, one of the players, a 34-year-old man, took an uncontested mark.
Police said he was walking back to take the kick when he was struck behind by a player from the opposing team.
The man fell to the ground bleeding from his face and was rushed to Frankston Hospital.
He received fractures to the right side of his face and may require surgery.
Detective Sergeant Larry Grimshaw of Cranbourne CIU said because of the nature of the attack and because the injuries were serious the incident had crossed the boundaries of sport into a criminal act.
He asked any witnesses to the incident to come forward.
Contact Detective Senior Constable Ray Ross at Cranbourne CIU on 5991 0661.
