A HAMPTON Park woman is suing Dandenong Hospital claiming she had the wrong ovary removed.
The woman’s lawyer at Slater and Gordon, Paula Shelton, said the mother of three underwent keyhole surgery in March 2005 to remove her right ovary, which she had given consent for. However, after finding a cyst on the left ovary, surgeons removed the left one instead.
After continuing pain in her right lower abdomen, the 39-year-old went back into surgery in August 2005 after tests revealed the left ovary had been removed instead of the right.
Ms Shelton said her client was now in early menopause after having both of her ovaries removed.
A directions hearing is scheduled at the County Court on 16 April.
