Workshop base laid

CONSTRUCTION has begun on a new community workshop in Cranbourne.
The concrete slab is down and the bricks will be laid next week on the joint project between Cranbourne Community House, the Rotary Club of Cranbourne and Casey Council.
The workshop is an extension of the community house and will offer a range of free trade courses for both men and women.
Rotary’s community service chairman, Bill Goodall, said the facility would provide locals with the opportunity to take part in a variety of household and mechanical training courses, including carpentry and woodwork.
“Many classes are often geared toward women so we wanted to create a place where men could also come along.
“There will be light machinery housed at the workshop and men can participate in the programs with their partners, children and grandchildren,” he said.
Mr Goodall said Rotary had assisted in the funding and construction of the workshop, which was expected to be running by June.
“Rotary has always supported the community house and they approached us to help fund this extra facility.
“The workshop is simply an extension of the community house that will be steered toward the entire community.
“We are happy to be involved because we can see the benefits the community will reap from this project,” he said.
