Stickinthemud start to new walk

A BOGGED excavator caused headaches for construction workers in Tooradin on Tuesday.
Work on the Tooradin Boardwalk got off to a sticky start when the large machine sank in mud on the foreshore.
It is believed the excavator was sitting idle on land adjacent to the Tooradin Hotel when the bank collapsed, rolling it into the mangroves.
A crowd of amused locals gathered to watch as two tow trucks were called in to haul the machine out.
The Boardwalk is a 130metre long footbridge that will provide waterside pedestrian access across Evans Inlet between the Tooradin Hotel and the Village Main Street.
Construction is set to commence this month and will continue for four months.
Casey Council CEO Mike Tyler said the project stemmed from community consultation and followed an extensive design and approvals process.
“Once completed the Tooradin Boardwalk will replace the pedestrian footpath along the South Gippsland Highway bridge, providing a safe and more scenic walkway to enjoy,” he said.
A temporary site office and materials/equipment compound will be erected on the western side of Evans Inlet during the construction period.
For more information call the City of Casey on 9705 5200.
