Soaring temperatures kill dog in car

A DOG has died after it was locked in a car on 35-degree day in Cranbourne East.
Police are investigating the incident which occurred some time between 11am and 7pm on Friday, 3 March.
It is believed the owner of the border collie left the dog in his mother-in-law’s care after leaving for work early that morning. Police say the mother-in-law allegedly let the dog into the backyard about 11am.
The owner went to drive a friend’s car that was parked in the backyard of his home about 7pm that evening when he smelt a strange smell and found the dog dead in the back seat. Police said the car was unlocked and the keys in the ignition. The dog is believed to have died due to extreme heat.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Senior Constable Geoff Chamings at Cranbourne police on 5995 4681.
