Rumours hit the funny spot

RUMOUR has it a group of local actors is bringing a comedy theatre favourite to Cranbourne.
The BATS Theatre Company is putting on the play Rumors by multi-award winning American playwright Neil Simon at the Cranbourne Community Theatre starting tomorrow (Friday).
Directed by Bronwyn Egan, the play tells the comical story of the deputy mayor of New York, who invites some prominent people to a small dinner party to celebrate his and his wife’s 10th wedding anniversary.
However, the event turns into a farce as the various dinner guests arrive and can’t find the host, his wife or their servants.
Company coordinator Susan Bergman said Neil Simon’s cleverly written comedy ensured a great night out for all.
“The various twists and turns of the play ensure that rumours abound with each set of guests trying to protect the reputation of their absent host,” she said.
“Throw in two police officers trying to ensure that the law is upheld with all guests now in on the cover-up and you have the makings of a hilarious night out.”
Part of the City of Casey Winter Arts Festival, the play will be performed at Cranbourne Community Theatre, Brunt Street, from Friday 20 July to Saturday 28 July starting at 8pm with a Sunday matinee at 2pm.
Tickets cost $16 adults and $14 concession and are available by calling Jenni on 9702 2759.
