LYNDHURST Secondary College students are on their way to the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games.
The school was last week named winner of Safeway Cranbourne North’s Bringing Kids to the Games competition, which awards a group of lucky students free tickets to a Games event.
Every Safeway supermarket in Victoria was given a set of tickets to give away to schools where students have made a “significant contribution to the community” throughout the last year.
Safeway Cranbourne North store manager Grant Hubbard said Lyndhurst Secondary College was chosen for its involvement in fundraising and volunteer work for local charities.
“We are delighted to be able to reward Lyndhurst Secondary College with a trip to the Games as they have really demonstrated a true commitment to helping the community,” he said.
“The event they will go to is the athletics and we hope they have a fantastic day out and return with memories to last a lifetime.”
Lyndhurst Secondary College student involvement coordinator Mike Jaremczuk said the school was both proud and excited that 13 students were chosen for the “once in a lifetime experience” at the Games on 19 March.
“Teachers nominated 70 quiet achievers to be in the running to go to the games. We did a draw yesterday (Wednesday) and 13 lucky students were selected.
“It is a really great reward for their contributions to the school and they are very happy to be going,” he said.
