Why you should choose Montessori education

The Montessori approach to education can be found in every corner of the world and is used in over 20,000 schools.

At Karingal Primary School the Montessori educational Stream began in 2004 in response to a growing number of passionate parents’ desire to have their children experience this world-renowned educational system.

Over the years, the Montessori Stream at Karingal Primary School has grown from one to four classrooms and students come from Frankston and the surrounding suburbs. This unique program allows students to progress at their own pace and rhythm and is based on a deep understanding of child development. Indeed, many of the insights and observations around human development made by Dr Montessori have been supported by scientific research over the past 30 years.

Dr Montessori’s approach to education inspires a lifelong love of learning and you may not realise this, but many famous musicians, athletes and tech giants, like Jeff Bezos and Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, attended Montessori schools.

But what is Montessori?

It is a child-centred method of education where students work with hands-on materials, enabling each child to independently discover new concepts and develop critical thinking skills. Classrooms have multi-aged groups, so students can learn collaboratively within a prepared environment. Learning is self-directed, encouraging students to gain a sense of independence, creativity and confidence in their abilities as learners.

If you are interested in knowing more about the Montessori approach at Karingal Primary School and how it could support you and your child, contact us by phone (03) 9788 4800/ (03) 9789 0514 or email at Karingal.ps@education.vic.gov.au
