New $12.7M catholic school in Clyde to open in 2027

Construction on a new $12.7 million Catholic Primary School in Clyde, is set to begin and is planning to open in 2027.

The first sod at the new site of St Carlo Acutis Catholic Primary school was turned last week with the Bishop of Sale, Very Reverend Greg Bennet marking the new project.

Named after the first millennial Saint, according to the Diocese of Sale, Saint Carlo Acutis is known for his acts of kindness, devotion to the Eucharist and innovative use of technology to share faith.

Those in attendance at the sod ceremony included Bass MP Jordan Crugnale, members from Clyde North’s Parish as well as representatives of the project’s team and local catholic primary school principals, students and parents.

Stage 1 of the project, which is supported by the State’s $6 million grant from the Building Fund for Non-Government Schools (catholic stream), will involve eight general areas and specialist spaces in supporting teachers, outdoor learning areas, administration spaces and a multipurpose resource hub.

The new school will also feature a shielded outdoor learning area, over two hardcourts and a junior AFL oval.

According to the media release, Paul Velten, executive director of Diocese of Sale Catholic Education, said that the construction of the new school is significant for families who are seeking accessible, affordable, faith-based and modern education.

Announced in 2024, the Victorian Government has committed $450 million in the 2023–24 State Budget to build and upgrade low-fee catholic and independent schools across the state.
