A STOLEN car was set alight along the Cranbourne train line last Thursday.
Police said the red Nissan sedan was completely gutted in the fire on Bayliss Road in Lyndhurst.
It had been stolen from Dandenong Plaza earlier in the day.
Detective Sergeant Larry Grimshaw of Cranbourne CIU said the fire would have been visible from the train tracks and urged any witnesses to come forward.
“It was right near the rail line so some train users might have seen it,” he said.
Det Sgt Grimshaw said combustible materials were found hanging from the petrol tank.
Anyone with information about the incident can contact Cranbourne police on 5995 4681 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
