The number-three ground at the Clyde Recreation Reserve became the focus of CCCA Lower Grades on Saturday with David Carson and Sam Beckham both scoring magnificent centuries in the same game in E Grade West.
Carson (105) struck first for Devon Meadows (3/234), cracking 15 fours from his 110 balls at the crease, with solid support from Jason Brzezowski (38) and Shane Simpson (34) leading the Panthers to a 6.69 per over run-rate.
But the Panthers then had to bend one around Beckham (101), with his flourishing innings coming from just 74 balls; with his 17 boundaries the highlight.
Beckham and Armaan Gill (30) got Clyde (198) off to a flying start in reply, but the bowling partnership of Shane Simpson (4/26) and Billy Loudon (3/20) saw the Panthers leapfrog the Cougars into second place on the ladder.
The other main attraction in E Grade West came from the flowing blade of Shaun Tongue (90), who propelled Tooradin (2/155) to a comfortable victory over Merinda Park (6/146).
Darren (30 not out) and Lochlan Buttner (21) finished off the fine work of Tongue in the latter overs of the contest.
The bowling performance of the day came from Kooweerup (5/146) C Grade skipper Gerrad Gilmour (5/6), who bowled four maidens from his seven overs against Pakenham (9/145) at Toomuc Reserve.
Bowling first, Gilmour took the first five wickets of the match, reducing the Lions to 5/24, before the experience of Dene North (46) and Mick McLaren (43) saw the home side claw its way into the contest.
Andrew McInnes (82 not out) then ensured Gilmour’s brilliant bowling display did not go to waste, hitting seven fours and two sixes to guide the Demons across the line.
Things got tight for Koowee, but a clinical finish from Kynen Dore-Wilson (22 not out) – from 29 rocks – saw the visitors win with just two balls left to spare.
In other notable C Grade performances, Christian Elliott (75 not out), Sean Hinkley (61) and Rik Gonsalvez (59) combined beautifully to keep Carlisle Park (4/255) undefeated after a big win over Melbourne Sixers (111), while terrific displays from Bailey Smith (4/24) and Alfie Howat (2/24 and 57) led Pakenham Upper/Toomuc (5/124) to its first win of the season over Upper Beaconsfield (9/122).
And Villy Vincent (50 and 3/21) was the key player for Kerala Strikers (224), making a stylish half century from just 56 balls before taking three important wickets against Clyde (184).
The Strikers didn’t have things all their own way, with Sagar Ranjit (3/40), Ross Elston (3/48) and Nick Miles (50) giving Vincent a run for his money.
Officer (2/92) stalwart Brent Pullen (5/24) has added another bag of wickets to his lucrative haul over the years, guiding the Bullants to a comfortable D Grade victory over Cardinia (91).
Pullen is currently in some of the best form of his career, having taken five wickets in each of his last three games.
The Bullants cruised to victory in reply, with opener Emmanuel Megee (45) leading the charge for the undefeated ladder leaders.
Kerala Strikers (8/210) scored a convincing win over Pakenham Upper/Toomuc (7/130), with Santosh Thomas (98) and Giss Thomas (4/18) in fine form; with Tanbir Joarder (3/27) fighting hard for the Yabbies.
Brett Jackson (57 not out) and Sean Mortimer (3/22) led Nar Nar Goon (4/209) to the 12 points over Devon Meadows (6/118), while Brett Oldfield (69) piloted Pakenham (6/170) to victory over the Leigh Smith (57) inspired Merinda Park (5/184).
In other grades this week, Maninder Singh (65 not out), Gurpreet Singh (3/4) and Jason Poole (3/18) led Nar Nar Goon, Merinda Park and Devon Meadows to respective victories in B Grade, while Harkanwaljit Singh (90) was the star for Avengers in E Grade East.
Singh helped Avengers to 8/237, before restricting Pakenham (8/109) to a losing score.
An undefeated half century from Adrian Buller (73 not out) guided Clyde (5/154) to a win over Emerald (7/150), while three wickets to Arshjot Singh (3/15) saw Officer (4/99) claim the points over Kerala Strikers (98).
