Berwick-Cranbourne Road and Thompsons Road Intersection Upgrade crews will close the intersection in early 2026 to begin the next stage of major works.
From 7pm on Monday 12 January to 5am on Friday 13 February, crews will close the intersection to remove the existing roundabout, install the new traffic signal cables and relocate water services, and asphalt the southbound lanes on Thompsons Road.
Detours will be in place via Grices, Bells, and Hardys roads and Linsell Boulevard. Motorists are advised to expect delays of up to 30 minutes during peak travel periods.
To help keep traffic moving during the closure, temporary traffic signals will be installed on Linsell Boulevard for the duration of the closure at the Broad Oak Drive and Bushranger Boulevard intersections in Cranbourne East.
When the intersection reopens, a smaller, temporary roundabout will be in place, helping to keep traffic flowing while we continue to work behind barriers to complete the upgrade.
Crews have made a start to major works, powering through to complete underground sewer works while work to relocate other utilities, including telecommunications, gas, water and electricity, is well underway.
Construction of the new lanes on Berwick-Cranbourne Road, as well as the new southbound lanes on Thompsons Road, is also progressing.
On Saturday 17 January from 10am-2pm, Big Build Roads is partnering with Bunnings Clyde North to deliver a Community Family Fun Day to thank the community for their patience during the closure and support local traders.
The new signalised intersection is on track to be completed in mid-2027.
Big Build Roads Program director Brendan Pauwels said the new-look intersection at Berwick-Cranbourne and Thompsons roads is one step closer to completion, with crews finishing sewer works, getting stuck into relocating underground utilities, and starting works to build the new lanes.
“We’ll be working around the clock while the intersection is closed to ensure we can reopen as quickly as possible,” he said.
