Cardinia’s win highlighted by marvellous Grogan hattrick

It was a moment like no other.

Cardinia pace bowler Josh Grogan achieved the feat every bowler dreams of – taking a hat-trick.

His spell came in Saturday’s win over Clyde on a day where wickets were far and between.

Suddenly, three unplayable yorkers perplexed the Cougars and left bails and stumps flying everywhere.

The three wickets were all taken without assistance, arguably the most satisfying route to the ever so desired achievement.

First, he trapped Yashan Gunasinghage in front of his stumps, followed by bowling Brett Reid.

And if ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

He opted to go with another yorker, this time cleaning up Max Adams.

While his teammates were certainly up and about, it took Grogan a minute to come to terms with what happened.

“I got a hat-trick but it didn’t really feel like it,” he said.

“I was always going to try and play a yorker, I thought it was the hardest ball to play.

“I got it right, it was a really good ball.

“The boys behind the stumps came running through, that was pretty cool.

“I was like ‘oh, I just got a hat-trick’.”

The Bulls were short in their bowling attack, missing Trishane De Silva, so Grogan was called upon to take a heavier load with the ball.

Whilst he was wicket-less for most of his attack, he stayed the course and produced three balls he’ll never forget.

The hat-trick fuelled Cardinia’s 92-run triumph, with the depth of the squad proving to be the difference.

“The boys that came up to play I thought bowled really well,” Grogan said.

“We fielded really well, we’ve done well.

“The group of blokes we’ve got is great especially through injury and some blokes have come up and played well.

“We’re going alright and we’ve got a good group and we all play well together and gel together.”
