POLICE are appealing for witnesses to the attempted abduction of an 11-year-old girl in Hampton Park on the weekend.
They believe the girl was walking along Somerville Road about 1.30pm on Saturday after leaving the Hampton Park Library.
She was approached from behind by a man, who placed a hand over her mouth and tried to grab her.
The girl pushed him away and ran back towards the library on Stuart Avenue.
The man was described as Caucasian, with tanned skin, partially grey beard stubble, about 30 years old, 174 centimetres, of solid build and was wearing fingerless gloves and a grey hooded jumper with the hood pulled over his head.
Police would like to speak to a group of people believed to have been waiting at a bus stop opposite Stuart Avenue at the time of the incident.
They believe the group may have information that could assist their investigations.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Detective Senior Constable Ollie Gaspari at Cranbourne CIU on 5995 4577.
