Former Cranbourne Secondary College student Lee Henson shows his award-winning digital guitar to yea
A DIGITAL guitar has inspired year 12 students at Cranbourne Secondary College to reach for their goals.
Former student Lee Henson visited the college last week to talk to graphic design students about achieving success after school.
Mr Henson completed year 12 in 2000 and did two years of graphic design at TAFE before being accepted into the Bachelor of Design course at Monash University.
His self-designed digital guitar won the university’s Most Innovative Award for 2005. The guitar operates by a hard drive in the body that allows users to store various guitar effects and drum loops.
These can then be accessed by the echo guitar’s digital interface.
Teacher Cathy Savery said Mr Henson encouraged students to follow their dreams and not give up when faced with adversity.
“He couldn’t get into university straight away but he didn’t let that put him off. He tried really hard at TAFE and demonstrated that there is more than one way to get in to uni,” she said.
“Students are not often aware of the different courses available or don’t understand the difference between TAFE and university.
“We asked Lee to come back to share his life history since year 12 and motivate the kids.
“The school is really proud of his success,” she said.
