Truck strikes tree

By Alison Noonan
SCENES of chaos reigned in Tooradin after two trucks crashed within minutes of each other last week.
The collisions closed the northbound lanes of the South Gippsland Highway for almost seven hours on Wednesday night.
Police said the first incident occurred about 7.15pm when a sand truck ran off the road and hit a tree near the Tooradin airfield.
The vehicle tipped on its side and spilt its load on the highway.
“A few minutes later another truck (driver) heading in the same direction saw the incident ahead and in trying to avoid the traffic ahead ran off the road and hit a tree,” Senior Constable Wayne Wilson said.
Snr Const Wilson said the highway was blocked until 1.30am while emergency crews cleared the scene.
The driver of the first truck suffered minor injuries and the driver of the second truck suffered head injuries.
Both men were taken to Dandenong Hospital.
CFA crews from Tooradin, KooWeeRup, Bayles, Cranbourne and Lang Lang and Narre Warren attended.
