Cobras blow out the cobwebs

The inaugural ‘Super Saturday’ at Cora Lynn has been labelled a huge success after a big crowd turned out to get their first taste of football and netball for the season at the Cobradome.

Southern league clubs Carrum Patterson Lakes and Hampton Park kicked off the action at 11am, with MPFNL Division One club Pines then taking on Northern league club Eltham.

Cora Lynn then ran onto its home turf to play a practice match against MPFNL Division Two club Pearcedale.

Bunyip, Cora Lynn, Neerim South and Pearcedale played a round-robin competition in netball, with 24 games played across the duration of the day.

“It was a good day with a good carnival atmosphere and was just a great day for people who love their footy and netball,” said Cora Lynn president Rohan Marriott.

“We got great feedback from the coaches involved and all the clubs have already indicated they would love to do the same thing next year.

“We had a good crowd turn out; there were cars all the way around the ground and the netball courts as well; it was just a really good atmosphere and a great way to kick things off for the season.

“The six-quarter games worked well and it was good to have a blow out against some quality opposition.”

Cora Lynn’s next practice match will be against Healesville, at Healesville, on Friday 15 March.
