Vintage cars up for auction

AFTER a 40-year strong partnership, Five Ways car lover Ian Ilberry is letting go of one of his most prized possessions.
It may be in rough shape now, but Mr Ilberry’s rare 1933 Ford sedan has weathered more than four decades since he bought it in the early 1960s.
The vehicle is one of two old Fords from Mr Ilberry’s private collection available for purchase at a clearing sale in Tooradin this weekend.
Mr Ilberry’s love of old Fords has seen him accumulate about 70 cars over the years, a few of which he still owns.
“I have sold 40 of them to car enthusiasts over the last two to three years but I’ve still got a few A-model Fords on my property.
“I kept them all for so long because I didn’t want to part with them. I loved having them around me,” he said.
“I have a passion for old Fords.”
Mr Ilberry said that although the cars no longer run and don’t look much, they are priceless to car enthusiasts and restorers.
“I decided to put them in this weekend’s auction to create a bit of interest. These are the cars that restorers and enthusiasts go searching for.
“They all hold a lot of history and are all sought after cars. You won’t really find many of them now.
“They have been outside on my property for years and are pretty weather-beaten.
“This is a great chance for someone to do something good with them. They are just nice to do up and look at,” he said.
Mr Ilberry said a number of other rare and valuable items will be up for sale at the weekend auction, including old collectables, china, farm machinery, antiques and furniture.
“There will be something for everyone.
“The cars will be the highlight but there will be a lot of other interesting things. It should be a good day,” he said.
The clearing sale will be held at 10am, Saturday, 25 February at 550 Manks Road, Tooradin North.
The property will also be open for viewing from 10am, Friday, 24 February.
