LOCALS were called to an unusual rescue mission when a car and boat sank at Warneet on Tuesday.
The vehicle and boat trailer rolled off the Blind Bight launching ramp into Westernport Bay about 8.30am.
It took locals about two hours to tow the fully submerged vehicle from the water.
The $50,000 Range Rover was later declared a writeoff.
It is unknown how the vehicle ended up under water but local fisherman Bob O’Connell said it was ‘one hell of an effort to get it out’.
“Noone will ever know how it happened. It is just one of those unsolved mysteries,” he said.
“It did a good job dredging for us though — it certainly got the mud up.”
Mr O’Connell said he felt for the unlucky owner who had to break the bad news to his unsuspecting wife.
“He was very worried about his wife because it’s her car.
“He said it was her pride and joy so she’s not going to be very happy!” he said.
Wet end for rolling Rover
