WEEKEND PENNANT – ROUND 14

• Side 1 Division 2 Sec 8

Skip Jay Tootell had a great game and was well supported by his crew of Chris Hunt, Matt (SOS) Stevens and Greg Jones who won by 20 shots. Jonesy had every one intrigued with his synergies about feeding the horses grass, meaning take a wider line when bowling on a quicker or wind affected green. Anyway, it certainly worked for him and his rink. With the home and away rounds now completed, Cranbourne finished on top of the ladder and can now look forward to doing well in the finals.

Cranbourne 76 (4 points) lost to Upwey-Tecoma 78 (14 points)

• Side 2 Division 3 Sec 8

A fantastic effort against Noble Park almost promoted Cranbourne to second on the ladder.

Skip Neil ‘Buddy’ Drummond had a great day winning by 14 shots with a good all round effort from his team mates Ian Barrenger, club singles champion Chris Stevenson and Dale Henry. Well done Cranbourne this win puts you third on the ladder with a home final to be played on Saturday.

What a great finish to the season with a win against Noble Park by a massive 66 shots. There was another great win by Skip Phil Nielsen and his rink of Marijan Bobetic, Club Legend Hans Worstelling and Roger Townley who won by 21 shots. Cranbourne finished fifth on the ladder and just missed out on playing finals.

• Side 4 Division 7 Sec 8

An exciting close win by four shots against Berwick places Cranbourne third on the ladder and a home final to be played on Saturday. Skip Tony Whalley had a brilliant game winning by 22 shots and was well supported by his team members Ron Fenton, Tom De Pradines and Brian Caddell.

MIDWEEK PENNANT – ROUND 13

Cranbourne 1 hosted Bentleigh 1 at home and in a very close game all day Cranbourne triumphed by two rinks to one to take the overall victory. Winning rinks skipped by Nick Arnold and Bill Sherriff both won by five shots each and Harry Van Soests team had a fighting one-shot loss, with Cranbourne coming out on top by seven shots.

• Cranbourne 1 (65) defeated Bentleigh 1 (56) + 7 shots and 14 points

Cranbourne 2 travelled to Edithvale to take on fourth-placed Edithvale and despite a great effort by the teams we went down two rinks to one. Our winning team skipped by Chris Deal, Derek Maguire (third), Dennis Tomlin (second) and Brian Caddell (lead) fought a tough battle with a great five-shot win. Honourable mention goes to John Kent’s team who went down by five shots.

• Cranbourne 2 (45) defeated by Edithvale 1 (67) – 22 shots and 2 points.

Cranbourne 3 playing at home took on the top placed Narre Warren 3. In a great game, Cranbourne teams played very well, winning two rinks to one, but unfortunately we lost the overall game by seven shots in the end.

• Cranbourne 3 (53) defeated by Narre Warren 3 (60) – 7 shots and 4 points.

Cranbourne 4 travelled to Cardinia Waters to take on the Villagers number-two team. On what’s always a very tricky synthetic green, and with windy conditions, the Cardinia team won two rinks and shared one. With a mixture of first-year players and others that have only played a couple of years more, and a couple of senior players, we can be proud of the efforts of our players whom most are playing in a Division that is above their ability levels at this time. They are coming along nicely and will be better for it next pennant season. Kudos must go to Skip George Ljepojevic, Ron Fenton (third), Stephen Muhi (second) and Lead John Anstiss who shared the points on their rink.

• Cranbourne 4 (48) defeated by Cardinia Waters 2 (70) – 22 shots and 1 point.

Next Tuesday is the last game of the season before finals begin. Let all Cranbourne teams put in a big effort to finish the season on a high note. Our big hope is that Cranbourne 3, currently in fourth position, secure their win and lock down fourth position. The main danger is Hampton Park 1 who is only three points behind us. Big effort guys and you’ll be playing finals.
