Residents in parts of the City of Casey have been faced with an unexpected power outage this morning, after an excavator hit the network.
The outage occurred at 7:53am on Friday, 20 January, when an excavator made contact with power lines on the corner of Cameron Street and South Gippsland Highway.
According to the AusNet outage tracker, thousands of residents were initially impacted in the municipality’s coastal villages, including Blind Bight, Junction Village, Warneet, Cannons Creek and Botanic Ridge. About 1000 residences in the Cranbourne area were also affected.
It is understood power has been partially restored in some areas, but over 1250 residents in Cranbourne, Cranbourne East and Junction Village remain without electricity.
A crew has been dispatched to assess the network disruption, with power likely to be restored by 4:30pm today, an AusNet spokesperson said.
“Our crews are currently on site assessing the damage. We will work to restore power as quickly as possible. Customers should check the AusNet outage tracker (outagetracker.com.au) to keep up to date on restoration times, which will be updated as our crews assess and repair any damage. We apologise for the inconvenience,” the spokesperson said.
