It was another successful weekend for the Casey Cannons women with all three teams recording wins.

The excellent results were headlined by the thirds’ 2-0 win over a powerhouse St Kilda team.

Needing victory to earn the right to host a final and jump to third on the ladder, Casey were the better team from the get-go.

A counterattacking goal finished off by Maddie Reincastle got her side the early lead, before a short corner goal by Zena Rhyne secured the result.

Positively, it was emerging talent including Jess Fitzgerald and Maddy Smit who stood up in the big match, along with experienced goalkeeper Cheryl Howard, who let nothing past.

Frankston forfeited its match against the Cannons’ firsts side in the final weekend of the home-and-away season, with those two teams to clash this weekend in finals.

Needing to win to maintain top spot on the ladder, the seconds scored three first quarter goals, giving them scoreboard ascendancy throughout the day.

The final score in that match was 3-1, with Rebecca Gregory scoring two goals and Alysha Hall netting one.

Meanwhile, it was more of a mixed bag for the men’s teams.

Most importantly, the firsts had a 3-0 win against Monash Uni. Bryan Young stepped up with two goals, with the victory elevating the Cannons back to second on the ladder.

The seconds, however, had a 2-1 loss to the same opponent and the thirds were beaten 3-0 by Old Trinity.
