Sections of Western Port Highway to close for roadworks

The Western Port Highway will be closed to through-traffic from 8pm Friday, 15 July to 5am Monday, 5 September between Hall Road, Skye and North Road, Langwarrin.the Department of Transport has announced.

Cranbourne-Frankston Road will be closed between Pearcedale Road and Potts Road/Centre Road, while Ballarto Road will be closed between Encore Boulevard and Potts Road.

Local detours will be available for residents with live travel times shown on electronic message boards in the area.

Crews will work to remove the existing roundabouts at Cranbourne-Frankston Road and Ballarto Road, adding more lanes and traffic lights.

Heavy vehicles and through-traffic will take significant detours around the closure of this important freight link, via the South Gippsland Highway, Baxter-Tooradin Road and Thompsons roads.

The department said drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and to allow up to 30 minutes extra for their journey during peak times.

Motorists should avoid detouring to the west, where possible, due to nearby road works taking place on Baxter-Tooradin Road, Langwarrin South and on Frankston-Dandenong Road, Carrum Downs.

Route 791 buses between Frankston and Cranbourne will detour around the closure using Potts Road, Ballarto Road, McCormicks Road, Hall Road, Pearcedale Road, North Road and Centre Road, and missing 14 stops.

Crews will work 24/7 to finish earthworks, build the new lanes and road surface, complete stormwater and sub-soil draining works, carry out linemarking, and install traffic signals, public lighting, safety barriers and road signs.

Following these works, the upgraded intersections will be open for use, however off-peak lane closures will continue as needed until the end of the year, allowing crews to complete the upgrade.
