Update: Arson and detective squads investigate car fire

Detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad are investigating following a fatal car fire in Cranbourne West on Thursday 24 March.

Emergency services were called to the incident on Western Port Highway about 7.55pm on Thursday night.

After extinguishing the fire, three bodies were located inside the vehicle.

Police say that the deceased are yet to be formally identified however they believe that they are a woman in her 30s and two girls aged under six.

Their next of kin were notified on Friday morning, police say.

The exact circumstances leading up to the fire are still being determined, however police say they are not looking for anyone else at this time.

Investigators are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash-cam footage of the fire.
