THOUSANDS turned out in Cranbourne on Saturday to enjoy the thrill and excitement of the annual MRA Cranbourne GP Run.
A highlight of the event was when Olympic gold medallist and celebrity guest Sally Pearson waved-off thousands of riders from a cherry picker as they travelled in a huge convoy from High Street, Cranbourne, to the MotoGP at Phillip Island on Saturday.
The streets of Cranbourne came alive from 8am for Saturday’s event, with stalls and entertainment for the whole family including an Interactive Kids’ Zone in Clydesdale Square and a Hot Rod Show in Lyall Street.
Award winning local dance group Kick Back Kids also performed and held workshops throughout the day.
City of Casey chief executive Mike Tyler said now in its 14th year, the event has become one of the biggest collective motorcycle rides in the country.
“It is great to see so many local people and visitors head to Cranbourne to enjoy this popular event, which is a highlight on the calendar for families and motorbike enthusiasts alike,” he said.
“Crowds were excited to see Sally Pearson wave-off the riders among the roar of thousands of engines in what was a remarkable display of motorcycles and get behind event charity partner the REACH Foundation.
“Local singer Chelsea Wall also impressed crowds with her vocal talent, singing the national anthem a cappella style.
“On behalf of the City of Casey, I’d like to extend my thanks and appreciation to the event supporters and MRA Cranbourne GP Run Advisory Committee for their efforts in delivering such an outstanding event.”
The City of Casey presented the MRA Cranbourne GP Run, supported by the Motorcycle Riders Association Victoria (MRA), Victoria Police, Star News Group and Cranbourne Chamber of Commerce.
