CASEY women have been set a challenge – to stay in one night this month and donate what they would have spent on a night out to help find a cure for cancer.
The Cancer Council’s annual fundraising event Girls’ Night In is one again and Casey women are being urged to take part.
The idea is simple – just invite the girls over for a night in and donate what you would have spent on a night out, whether it be a small gathering or a big party.
All funds raised will help the Cancer Council fight breast and gynaecological cancers through prevention programs, support services and world-class research.
More than 160 women in Casey have signed up to host an event this month.
Devon Meadows resident Renee Horvat, 36, is hosting a fundraising event for the fourth year in a row.
Ms Horvat said her event has grown over the years with more than 150 family, friends and their networks attending last year and managed to raise $4500.
Ms Horvat said they go all out with their event with raffles, games, a bucking bull, jumping castle, a band performing, pampering sessions, karaoke and stalls selling candles, jewellery and linen. Those who attend are also encouraged to dress up in pink, with awards to be handed out for best dressed, best hat and best shoes.
“I do this because it’s a good excuse to have a great night with all your and girlfriends and family in a safe environment, as well as raise money for such a great cause,” she said.
“I get great enjoyment out of giving back to others and have lost family members because of cancer.
“I continue to do it every year because all the girls want me to, they love it.
“The best part is the whole night, and seeing all the girls let their hair down and have a great time.”
Ms Horvat encouraged other women to host their own event.
“I encourage all women to start with a little gathering and see how that goes,” she said.
“You will have so much fun and it’s such great achievement that you are doing something good for woman that are suffering from such a terrible illness.”
