Works are currently underway to redevelop the much-loved Tooradin Footbridge at Sawtells Inlet, thanks to $750,000 in funding through the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program.
The program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs to help communities bounce back from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Demolition works for the existing bridge were completed this week and construction for the new bridge is envisaged to commence mid-January 2022.
The project is expected to be completed by mid-April 2022.
Manager city design and construction Trevor Griffin said the City of Casey was proud to upgrade the iconic bridge.
“Council welcomes funding such as this, to help meet the needs of Casey’s growing population, and advocates on behalf of our residents to secure support for vital community projects,” Mr Griffin said.
