A Clyde school has shared in a State Government funding boost for infrastructure and upgrades across the Catholic and independent education sectors.
Bass MP Jordan Crugnale announced that St Josephine Bakhita Catholic Primary School in Clyde North is one of 34 projects across Victoria to share in $70 million under round three of the Non-Government Schools Capital Fund.
The Non-Government Schools Capital Fund delivers new schools and upgrades that increase capacity and modernise facilities. It also supports the removal of asbestos and cladding.
St Josephine Bakhita Catholic Primary School will receive $5m for the development of the new school, including the construction of an administration building, a teaching and learning centre comprising 10 general learning areas, and other associated spaces.
More than one-third of Victorian students attend Catholic or independent schools.
“Every Victorian student deserves the opportunity to thrive and be their best when it comes to their education – and we’re proud to support better facilities for every school, whether it’s government, independent or Catholic,” Ms Crugnale said.
“This fund will get vital projects off the ground to improve students’ learning and expand facilities in growing areas – giving all Victorian schools access to facilities and classrooms that will lead them to bright futures.”
Director of Catholic education for the Diocese of Sale, Maria Kirkwood, said the school was much needed in Clyde North to cater for the growth that was being seen in the area.
“Our vision for St Josephine Bakhita Primary School is to provide a faith-filled environment that will enable students to achieve their personal best,” she said.
