THE lights at the Cranbourne Turf Club were turned on for the first time on Monday night in preparation for the maiden country night race meet in Victoria next year.
All 38 light towers have been installed ahead of the first scheduled night race meeting on Friday 9 March next year.
As part of the testing process, the track at Cranbourne was illuminated on Monday night, with the committee members present.
The test was one of a number to be taken at the track before the first night racing meeting, with official industry trials and local jump to be held in January and February.
Cranbourne Turf Club chief executive Neil Bainbridge said the project was due to be completed and handed over to the club before Christmas.“It’s a really exciting time for the club,” he said.
“The testing phase will help us iron out any lumps and bumps and be ready for a great first night racing meeting outside metropolitan Melbourne.”
