Detectives from the Armed Crime Squad are investigating after a firearm was discharged during an aggravated burglary in Cranbourne East.

Emergency services were called to Scotsdale Drive to reports three offenders forced their way into the home armed with a firearm and machete about 2.15am on Thursday 22 July.

An 18-year-old Cranbourne East man was taken to The Alfred Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being assaulted with an edged weapon.

A 45-year-old Cranbourne East woman received minor assault-related injuries to her lower body.

She was taken to Casey Hospital in a stable condition, according to Ambulance Victoria.

Six other victims, including a teenager and two children were present at the time and were unharmed.

The offenders fled the scene prior to police arrival.

Detectives are investigating whether parties may be known to each other.
