POLICE are seeking information about a burglary and attempted burglaries in William Clarke Wynd Narre Warren South, with one targeting an elderly woman.
Police said on Wednesday 19 October about 8.30am, an 89-year-old woman who lives alone, heard a commotion in her garage.
She went to have a look and saw smoke coming from the rear door, and both of the garage doors wide open.
The woman then saw a man in the garage who told the woman that he was doing work for her husband, who however, was dead. He than went on to say that he was working for her son, but could not name him.
Police said the man then asked if he could use the woman’s toilet and have drink, which she let him do.
When the man took off, the woman discovered he had been trying to cut open a safe in the garage using her son’s angle grinder which was stored in there.
Two other homes in the street were also targeted that same day about the same time.
The garage at the home next door was ransacked and tools were stolen.
The offender also tried to break into the house on the other side, with the rear door attempted to have been jimmied open.
Police described the man as Caucasian, aged between 25 and 30 years old, with an Australian accent, fair complexion, short, thick black hair, medium build and between 170 and 175 centimetres tall. He was wearing black pants and a yellow high-visible vest.
