Neighbourhood joins in for zesty fundraiser

A quiet Cranbourne street will be transformed on the weekend for a fundraiser for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal.

Seven-year-old Lochie will host a lemonade stand outside his home to raise funds for the hospital, where he is a patient, to support other sick kids.

And he certainly won’t be alone.

It’s a real community affair, with neighbours and even roadworkers chipping in to assist Lochie and his mum Clare so that the day goes smoothly.

Aspire Childcare Cranbourne West has joined forces with Lochie too, and will be hosting a number of activities in the street including face painting and a sausage sizzle, with all funds raised going to the Good Friday Appeal.

Aspire Cranbourne West centre director Thilini said the centre and its families had rallied behind Lochie and were pleased to support the cause.

Families have offered to make cupcakes and have been helpfully spreading the word about the event.

The Aspire head office is expected match funds raised by the centre with a donation of its own.

“We are honoured to be a part of this, to support Lochie and the Good Friday Appeal,” said Cranbourne West educational leader Jo.

The lemonade stand isn’t the only attraction of the day, with locally-made products for sale as well as lolly bags to keep the kids going.

The Easter Bunny is set to take some time out from his busy schedule and will pop in for a visit.

He’ll be joined throughout the day by Steve the Magician, Elsa and Anna, a Jawa and Kylo Ren, Captain America, Belle and a fire truck from the Cranbourne Fire Brigade.

There’s no need to worry about the weather, with marquees set up to protect visitors from the elements.

Traffic control will be in place to direct visitors to carparks.

There will be special prizes for visitors too thanks to a raffle of items donated by members of the community. The raffle will now be drawn at 2.30pm

Lochie’s Lemonade Stand will be held at Evelyne Street on Saturday 27 March, from 10am til 3pm. For more information, follow Loch’s Lemonade Stand on Facebook.
