Trainer’s niece pleads guilty to murder

The niece of a beloved greyhound trainer has pleaded guilty to her murder.

Jessie Moore pleaded guilty to murdering her aunt, Karen Leek, at Devon Meadows on May 25, 2020.

Ms Moore made the plea in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday 26 February, via videolink from prison.

She was remanded in custody to appear in Victoria’s Supreme Court this month for a directions hearing.

Ms Leek was well-respected in the racing community, with friends and colleagues remembering her fondly at the time of her death.

She was remembered for her support for others in the industry and her work as a mentor, as well as her success as a trainer.

Ms Leek grew up in Warrandyte where her family owned the general store, and was introduced to greyhound racing at just 13 years of age.

Over her career she raised many champion greyhounds, including Bewildering, Brokenwood, Extreme Magic, Godsend, Moreira and Nolen.
