CASEY Business Development Group (CBDG) has been told that work on the $2.5 billion East Link Project is well advanced.
Southern and Eastern Integrated Transport Authority chief executive Ken Mathers said work was going well along the 45 kilometre toll road at a recent CBDG breakfast.
Mr Mathers said the road was Australia’s biggest road project, employing thousands of workers until completion in 2008.
“Work has started on bridges in the DandenongFrankston area and major bridge construction over the Princes Highway will begin later this year,” he said.
“The freeway will have 86 bridges.”
Mr Mathers said the bridges were being built early to provide easy truck access to the work sites.
The freeway will have shared use paths along the entire route.
The interchange with Monash Freeway will be one of the biggest and busiest freeway interchanges in Victoria.
It will provide traffic flows in all directions except to the southeast.
East Link will have nine bridges and will pass under the Monash Freeway.
