A Pearcedale man has struck the big time, scoring a whopping $1 million in a Lotto draw.
The lucky man had been telling his family for years that he’d win division one, and he’s now happily screaming the words ‘I told you so’.
According to The Lott, the winner revealed he initially thought he missed out on the big win by just two numbers.
“I said to myself, ‘bugger if only I’d had the two supplementary numbers too I’d have won division one,” he said.
“I didn’t realise you just needed the six winning numbers. It wasn’t until I went to claim the prize at the newsagent that they told me I was a millionaire.
“It’s lovely. I play every week, and I’ve never won anything like this before.”
The newly-minted-millionaire confessed the funds would be a “nice boost” to his retirement.
“I’m fortunate that I am pretty comfortable, but anything is a bonus,” he confessed.
“I’ll probably take a bit of a holiday up north and share it with my family.”
The regular player, who didn’t wish to reveal his identity, purchased the winning entry at the Pearcedale News and Lotto in Pearcedale Village Shopping Centre.
Store owner Dan Brown said he was “thrilled” one his regular customers had scored big.
The store, which has sold a few division twos, had never sold a division one winning entry prior to this.
“What a ripper. He’s a legend and a great customer, and we always enjoy having him in store,” Mr Brown said.
“We’ve got signs up everywhere, and we’ve been telling all of our customers we’ve won. It’s created a bit of a buzz in the town.
“We are so happy for our winner. We wish him and his family all the best.”
The winning numbers in Monday and Wednesday Lotto draw 4031 on Wednesday 2 December were 39, 25, 45, 24, 28, and 34, while the supplementary numbers were 42 and 2.
