HAMPTON Park Tennis Club provides free social tennis to the community each week and residents are invited along to join.
The social sessions are held each Thursday morning from 9.30am until about 12 noon and refreshments, morning tea, racquets and balls are supplied.
The free tennis mornings were initiated at Casey councillor Lynette Keleher’s suggestion, as part of the Active Places program funded by the previous Labor State Government.
Ms Keleher said the sessions had increased in popularity with a large number of regulars now attending the fun social mornings.
“I popped down to have a hit of tennis at the local Hampton Park Tennis Club last Thursday,” she said.
“I miss tennis very much, so this is a great way to be able to have a quick game without the commitment of regular competition.
“You can just pop down and have a coffee or you can jump on the court and have a friendly hit. Beginners are welcome and indeed encouraged to come along.”
Cr Keleher donated some of her ward funds towards the purchase of morning tea for participants and would love to see more people having a go at tennis.
“Tennis is for everyone, young and old, fit and not so fit,” she said.
