Pink fund-raiser

By Bridget Cook
A Hampton Park catering business owner, with help of her friends and business associates, has organised a fund-raising evening at Casey Fields to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF).
The ‘Delishously Pink’ Girls Afternoon/Night will include guest speakers, a silent auction, fashion show, door prizes, plenty of great shopping offers and a three-course meal.
The event, to be held on Saturday 22 October from 4 to 10.30pm, will include plenty of entertainment for women to enjoy a night out for a good cause.
Organiser Kym Frost, from Luv 2 Cater, said the event had grown into something bigger and better due to demand this year.
“My aunty passed away from breast cancer quite a few years ago,” she said.
“Last year a few girlfriends and myself were having a few party planners over and a dinner to raise some money for the NBCF, which turned into nine party planners.
“I cooked up a five-course dinner for the 35 guests.
“After the night had ended and word got out, I could see it turning into something bigger, so the same girlfriends got together and came up with Delishously Pink.”
This year, there will be about 30 planners present on the night including Avon, The Body Shop, Chefs’ Toolbox and Contours Berwick – who will be donating a percentage of their takings to the cause.
A fashion show will be one of the main features of the night, which is in memory of a young girl named Rhiannon – a niece of one of the women involved – who sadly lost her battle with a rare form of cancer this year.
Rhiannon Woodsell, affectionately known as Annie, was 13 when she was diagnosed with cancer in the pleura, the sack which surrounds the lungs, in 2008.
After more than a year fighting the deadly disease with chemotherapy and radiation, Rhiannon was given the all-clear in April 2009.
Last year, Rhiannon and her family received the news they never wanted to hear – the cancer had returned. In February this year, she lost her fight.
Ms Frost said along with the fashion show, the night would have plenty to offer.
NBCF ambassador Jane Scoble and Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley will be the quest speakers at the event.
It will be held at Casey Fields, 160 Berwick-Cranbourne Road, Cranbourne East.
Cost is $30 per ticket, which can be purchased at www.luv2cater.vpweb.com.au
