HAMPTON Park Secondary College students visited the City of Casey council chambers last week to learn about careers within the council.
The Polish program, run by the Beacon Foundation, also gave the 20 Year 11 students a chance to learn various skills, including goal setting, interview preparation, manners and etiquette and body movement.
City of Casey Mayor Shar Balmes, Councillors Judy Owen, Lynette Kelleher, positive ageing officer Sue Hamilton, leader traffic management Wayne Mack Team, economic development officer Lydia Ropiha, Hampton Park Community Renewal Project officer Marja Ison, Casey youth resource officers Leading Constable Dave Smith, Senior Constable Brett Owen and Susan Higgins from Beacon Foundation were present to answer questions from students.
Hampton Park Secondary College-managed individual pathways co-ordinator Robyn Cardamone said it was a great day and the students had a fantastic time.
“This is the first time we have held a Beacon Polish Workshop at Council Chambers with guests from within the council,” she said.
“It is always great having the police youth resource officers involved as many students have questions about the police force.”
Year 11 student Lei Xu said the presenters were very engaging and helpful.
“Before attending, I really didn’t know what I wanted to do,” she said.
“The workshops helped me put some things together, especially the way to go about presenting my-self.”
